Dechreuodd ei ddiddordeb yn myd y blodau yn ifanc. Fel mab i ffarmwr roedd yn gyfarwydd â bywyd y wlad, ac ar ôl dyddiau ysgol aeth i Fangor i astudio Amaethyddiaeth a Botaneg. Am flynyddoedd bu’n Ddarlithydd yn Adran Bioleg yn Athrofa Gogledd Ddwyrain Cymru, a hefyd yn Gofnodydd i’r Gymdeithas Fotaneg (BSBI) am ddeugain mlynedd. Cafodd radd Doethur gan Brifysgol Salford am ei gyfrol ‘Flora of Flintshire’, a gyhoeddwyd yn 1993. Wedi iddo ymddeol cyhoeddodd ‘Blodau Cymru…Byd y Planhigion’ a ddyfarnwyd yn Llyfr y Flwyddyn 2018.

Y mae Goronwy yn Gymrawd Prifysgol Bangor, a’r Gymdeithas Lineaidd (FLS) a’r llynedd (2022) dyfarnwyd ef yn Gymrawd Cymdeithas Ddysgedig Cymru (FLSW). Y mae hefyd yn Llywydd Cymdeithas Edward Llwyd a Chymdeithas Thomas Pennant.

Dr Goronwy Wynne: Enjoying the plants of Eryri

Dr Goronwy Wynne is a popular lecturer and broadcaster and President of Cymdeithas Edward Llwyd and of Cymdeithas Thomas Pennant.

Goronwy saId…”As the son of a farmer I was familiar with country life, and I enjoyed going to Bangor to study Agriculture and Botany.

This led to my work in the Biology Department of the North East Wales Institute for many years, specialising in ecology and botany.

I was also Recorder for the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland for 40 years, and this was the basis of my book “Flora of Flintshire”, published in 1993.”

After his retirement Dr Wynne also published “Blodau Cymru: Byd y Planhigion” (The Flowers of Wales: The World of Plants) which was awarded Welsh Book of the Year in 2018. He is also a Fellow of Bangor University and of the Linnean Society, and last year (2022) was awarded Fellowship of the Learned Society of Wales.

A native of Bolton, Lancashire – Assistant Regional Officer for Aviemore; experienced climber; in Wales, a number of responsibiities with the Countryside Council for Wales before completing her doctorate on the iconic Eryri plant Lloydia, Snowdon lily, in Bangor University – Barbara is a national specialist.

Title: A lifetime of recording the plants of Eryri

A native of Groeslon, Arfon, now living in Rhuthun, Gwyn is an engineer by training and and expert in processing data. His interest in the plants of the high mountains, their history and ecology, dates from his childhood on the edges of Eryri. He is an accomplished botanical photographer, a recorder of change, a skilful draughtsman, a regular contributer to Cymyned Llên Natur and an active sustainability champion.
